At Dunajská Streda’s Smetanov háj Primary School, a competition in the collection of used cooking oil was held among the pupils in early 2026. Taking place in close cooperation with the Prilej olej project, its aim was to motivate children to actively protect the environment and to emphasize the importance of proper handling of used oils. These often end up in the sewage system or municipal waste, where they cause serious damage.
There is more work to be done with household oil than with paper or glass. Laziness is a typical human trait, which also manifests itself when sorting waste. This is doubly true for burnt oil from households, which burdens the environment, but sorting it is a bit more work than with paper or glass. Municipalities have understood that more needs to be done to motivate people.
Do you have used cooking oil at home? Drop in by January 15th or 16th at select scheduled locations and exchange it for vinegar or new oil. Your used cooking oil will be ecologically transformed into biodiesel. We can exchange the handed over used cooking oil for vinegar but [1] or oil. For every full liter of cooking oil used, you get a liter of vinegar in a 1:1 ratio, i.e. for 1 liter of oil, 1 liter of vinegar. For 6 liters of used cooking oil, you get 1 liter of new sunflower oil.
Our village of Beluša collects cooking oils and fats from the household as part of the sorted collection system. We have prepared for you a short overview of how and where you can hand over this type of waste. Where to take the used oil? Used cooking oil must be brought in a PET bottle to the collection yard during the opening hours of the collection yard.
We are aware that dealing with waste in households and in the village is a hot topic. We gradually started solving them, even if the conditions in the village for sorting them are not completely satisfactory. During the summer, we will deal with the registration of garbage cans for municipal waste and we will try to change the attitude towards sorted waste through education.

The municipality of Beluša, in cooperation with the company Meroco a.s. has prepared a novelty for you in the form of a reward for collecting used cooking oil. How to do it? After using in the kitchen, let the oil cool down, then strain it through a sieve (so that we rid the oil of coarse impurities) and pour it into a transparent, resealable bottle. Oil used as a pickle from food, from sardines, olives, etc., is also suitable for harvesting. Under no circumstances should mineral, motor and other waste oils belong in the container!
